The number of sessions required varies depending on your individual needs, goals, and the complexity of the issues you’re addressing. Heartsease Consultancy emphasises a client-centered approach, tailoring therapy to each person’s unique circumstances. Some clients may benefit from short-term therapy (a few sessions), while others may require longer-term support (several months or years) to achieve meaningful change. During the initial assessment, your therapist will discuss your goals and provide an estimate of the potential duration, which can be adjusted as therapy progresses.

At Heartsease Consultancy, the first session, often referred to as an initial consultation or assessment, is designed to build a foundation for therapy. You can expect the therapist to review confidentiality, consent, and intake information, which may spark some discussion. They will ask questions to understand what brings you to therapy, your personal history, and your goals. This session, lasting approximately 1.5 hours for adults (£120), is an opportunity for you to share your reasons for seeking therapy and for the therapist to learn about you. It’s also a chance for you to assess if the therapist feels like a good fit. The focus is on creating a safe, non-judgmental space to begin exploring your needs, with no pressure to dive into sensitive topics immediately.

Therapy at Heartsease Consultancy may be suitable if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling with emotional, behavioural, or psychosomatic challenges. The website highlights our integrative psychotherapeutic and psychosomatic approach, which supports clients in understanding and overcoming such issues. If you’re experiencing stress, anxiety, trauma, or a desire to explore personal growth, therapy can provide a supportive space to process these feelings. A free 15-minute phone or video consultation is offered to discuss your needs and determine if our services align with your goals. You might also consider therapy if you’re open to self-reflection and willing to engage in a collaborative process. If you’re unsure, the initial consultation can help clarify whether therapy feels right for you.

Yes, sessions at Heartsease Consultancy are confidential. The contract indicates that confidentiality, consent, and intake information are reviewed at the start of the first session, ensuring you understand the boundaries of privacy. Therapists are ethically bound to protect your personal information, with exceptions only in specific circumstances, such as if there’s a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or legal obligations (e.g., reporting terrorist activities or abuse). These exceptions will be clearly explained during the first session. Additionally, therapists may discuss cases with a supervisor to ensure high-quality care, but this is done anonymously to maintain your privacy.

To prepare for your first session at Heartsease Consultancy, you don’t need to have everything figured out—come as you are. However, reflecting on why you’re seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve can be helpful. Consider jotting down key issues, concerns, or questions you want to discuss, as this can help you stay focused. Please arrive as you feel comfortable, with no expectations regarding appearance or emotional state. You may need to provide core information (e.g., personal details) before or during the session, as this is required for professional practice. If you’re nervous, know that this is normal, and the therapist will guide the conversation to help you feel at ease. Booking a free 15-minute consultation beforehand can also help you prepare by addressing any initial questions.
